behind the lens

Welcome! I’m Ashley,  Photographer and Owner here at Ashley Crocker Photography. I’m so glad you stopped by to learn a little more about me!

Someone once asked me why I wanted to be a photographer. I started this journey because I wanted to show people all of the beauty that surrounds us, you know what I mean, the beauty that isn't in pop culture. It's hidden in nature, in design, in strangers minds, and within ourselves. I am constantly inspired by nature, and by the people I meet who open up about their ambitions, their stories, their adventures.

My love of photography began as a very young child. It probably had something to do with a fisherprice camera, which then lead to me saving my allowance and buying a real camera at 6 years old. I spent most of my youth with a camera in hand, and had countless rolls of film waiting to be developed. I just went and aged myself.

I believe in the power of community and enjoy volunteering my time. During the first wave of Covid-19, and the beginning of my maternity leave (before our son was born) I participated in The Front Steps Project, raising both monetary and food donations for local food banks and programs. I was so excited when one of my photos was selected to be published in The Front Steps Project book! During the second wave, I did Santa Composites for all the families who were unable to celebrate the holidays with a regular tradition. I donated 100% of those profits to three local women's shelters - The North End Women's Resource Centre, The Alpha House, and Willow Place. The small ways we can help, matter.

I have over 5 years of experience in corporate and commercial photography. I've been photographing families for ten years, and newborns and maternity steadily for the past 4 years, along with many other genres (food, for example) Photographing newborns and families are where my heart feels joy. My favourite part of being a newborn photographer is we don't know who they are just yet. All that these tiny humans know is love, and there is something so incredibly pure about that.

When not photographing treasured moments for my clients, I spend the majority of my time with my husband, and our now one year old son. Together, we enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, camping, biking, and ofcourse, cheering on the Winnipeg Jets at every opportunity!

I look forward to meeting you, in person!
